Personal Trainer | Doctorate in Physical Therapy | BA Exercise Physiology
My name is Darren Collinwood and I am excited to be your personal trainer! I have an extensive background in health and fitness including a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and many years experience personal training. Together we can overcome injuries, build muscle, lose fat, improve mobility, and get you moving and feeling your best.
I believe in being active inside and outside of the gym, because doing so has such an incredibly positive effect on physical health, mental health, and emotional wellbeing. Scouting in the Pacific Northwest introduced me to activities like backpacking, kayaking, white water rafting, mountain biking, and climbing. I also have a passion for sports, and have been involved in soccer, basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, track and field, rugby, volleyball, and even ultimate frisbee.
During my involvement in these activities I accrued a fair amount of injuries and found myself often being rehabilitated by the most amazing athletic trainers, personal trainers, and physical therapists, which inspired me to pursue a career in the same field. I'm fascinated by the body's ability to not only heal through exercise, but to also prevent future injuries by increasing functional strength, joint stability, and range of motion.
I have a passion for learning about anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, and I utilize my eight years of formal education in my training. This ensures that my clients' workouts are congruent with the latest scientific literature so they get the best results possible.
Earning a Doctorate in Physical Therapy gave me a wide range of experience with everything from helping patients recovering from a stroke in the ICU learn to walk again, to working with elite athletes preparing for the Olympics. I also have personal experience overcoming injuries and achieving my own fitness goals. After gaining 50 lbs due to the stress of graduate school I buckled down and got back into great shape, so I understand the challenges and demands my clients face when trying to accomplish goals like losing weight. My extensive personal and professional experience helps me tailor every program to the individuals needs and abilities so that they get the absolute most out of their time and energy.
