If you want to get your health on track, Vani’s story is an excellent source of inspiration. Her journey to better fitness has demonstrated resilience and determination. What can you learn from her story? Here’s how Vani took control of her life by improving her health.
Vani’s Story of Starting Her Fitness Journey
High blood pressure is a problem for adults — about 48% of Americans have this condition. When she heard she had it, Vani knew it was time to take control of her health metrics. Exercise can help your blood pressure, but Vani didn’t see the desired results.
“My most important goal was to get my numbers under control and start getting healthy,” she said.
Emphasizing Consistency
Vani’s blood pressure is back to normal, and the doctor gave her a clean bill of health. How did she come this far? Her training with Alyse and learning about fitness has gone a long way. For example, she realized you don’t need highly intense workouts for results, as consistency is more important.
“A big aha moment for me was that you need to work out consistently,” Vani said. “Alyse said even if you get 45 minutes of brisk walking, that’s more than enough. Just try to get that in and try to be consistent in any type of activity.”
Protein Education
Another critical point in Vani’s fitness story is learning about protein. This macronutrient helps rebuild muscles after a workout, so prioritize it at mealtime. Cleveland Clinic recommends about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, but it could change based on your fitness goals.
“My biggest aha moment was talking to Alyse and realizing that I wasn’t getting as much protein as I needed to,” Vani said. “Alyse told me to start with 80 grams and make it a concerted effort.”
Improving Along the Journey
The first day of your fitness journey can be the most challenging. However, improvements will make you stronger despite initial struggles. Fending off discouragement is critical to staying optimistic with your exercise routine. Vani said she nearly felt ill after her first time using the stationary bike, but it’s now her favorite machine.
“So my favorite device here is the air bike, and the first time I got on there, I almost threw up,” she said. “Every time I get back on there, I’m trying to go a little bit faster, so that’s just my goal.”
Correcting Your Form
While fitness education is essential, your time with trainers may also teach you other helpful lessons. For instance, you could learn the proper form for squats to help your spine and legs. Vani’s story includes improving her movement to make her workouts more effective and prevent excessive shoe wear.
“I’ve noticed since I was a child, I wear the outside of my shoes,” Vani said. “Every time Alyse points it out, I try to correct my form, and it makes a big difference.”
Making Life Easier
Correct form matters in the gym, and it can improve your performance in everyday tasks. Vani said Alyse’s form advice has made her back hurt less when standing and doing dishes. Solving this condition is critical, as Statista says 28% of American adults have chronic low back pain. When your back feels better, life gets a little easier.
“I don’t know if it’s because over time I’ve learned to stand a certain way, but that has been a big difference for me,” Vani said.
How Vani’s Story Can Inspire Others
Your fitness journey doesn’t have to be a solo trip. Finding workout buddies is terrific, as these partners bring inspiration and energy to your workouts. Since starting to train with Alyse, Vani has inspired others to join her. Getting healthy becomes more fun when you have friends and family near you.
“Because of what I’ve been experiencing, I’ve gotten my husband’s cousin and his wife to come join,” Alyse said. “They live where I do as well, and they don’t mind the drive.”
Finding Community
One of the essential parts of a fitness journey is finding a good community. Some gyms and trainers see you as a number instead of a human being needing support. Thus, people like Vani don’t receive the training they need to meet their goals. However, having a workout partner helps with motivation and setting goals.
“It just makes a huge difference to be heard and have my feelings validated because there was genuinely a void that needed to be filled,” Vani said. “It’s also when you’re a part of a community — I’m not going to slack.”
Starting the First Workout
The first workout can be challenging, as it’s the initial step in a long journey. Vani says first-timers should temper their expectations and set their sights on the long run. If your goal is weight loss, the Mayo Clinic says you should aim for 1 or 2 pounds weekly for sustainable progress.
“Don’t jump in and say, ‘I’m here because I want to lose 50 pounds in a month — it’s not about that,” she said. “It’s more about a holistic mindset. Think about how you want to get healthier. Don’t forget that your diet is a big part of your whole fitness journey.”
