Nothing’s better than a walk outside on a beautiful morning. Chris Protein Personal Training loves community hikes and recently hosted one in Austin. If you want to get fit and spend time in nature, these outdoor tours are tree-mendous for your health. Here’s a recap of the event and why you should join the next one!

Taking Community Hikes to New Heights

The March 30 hike explored Turkey Creek Trail just west of the city. Nancy Loredo, who teaches boxing and does personal training at Chris Protein Personal Training, led the way on the recent expedition. The beginner-friendly path lets anybody find their compass for a healthier lifestyle!

Chris Protein Personal Training members attended the hike and invited their friends for a morning stroll. Some people brought their pups and had a doggone good time! Magda’s friendly four-legged family member Harley was a big hit during the walk.

Turkey Creek Trail is a beginner-level path within Emma Long Metropolitan Park, spanning about 2.7 miles and requiring about an hour and a half of walking. These hikes are one of the many ways to engage the community and encourage healthy living!

The Benefits of Community Hikes Leaf  No Doubt

Have you hit a frustrating fitness plateau? Gather friends for a nature walk, reach the summit and feel accomplished. Here are six benefits of these group events.

1. Falling Asleep Easier

Exercising and being in nature improve your wake-sleep cycle and ability to get restorative sleep. Sunny days mean more vitamin D and an increased body temperature. However, your body cools you down like drinks in an ice chest.

Sleep is essential for fitness because it restores your energy levels and reduces injury risks. Exercise leads to quality rest and vice versa! Get outside at least once weekly and reap the benefits over time.

2. Managing Your Weight

Community hikes are simple exercises that can be a giant leap toward your weight loss goals. Blazing the trails with friends gets your heart pumping while keeping you accountable to your workout commitment. Planning a nature walk with buddies makes you less likely to skip the session.

The calories you burn depend on your height, weight and the effort you put into it. On the trail, you may experience inclines and rocky paths that require more energy. However, friendly conversations with your companions make the time fly by and the obstacles easier to overcome.

3. Relieving Tension

Being in nature also has psychological and cognitive benefits. Get metaphorically lost in the woods with your newest and closest friends! Community hikes are excellent for stress relief and mood boosting.

Research has identified stress as a trigger for up to 80% of people with migraines. How can you solve the issue? Experts recommend going outdoors to melt your troubles away. According to one recent study, spending 10 to 50 minutes in natural spaces improved mood and critical physiological markers.

4. Finding Varied Exercise

Going to the gym and working one-on-one with personal trainers will improve your fitness level while building lean muscle mass and strengthening your cardiovascular system. However, the same routine can become stale after a while. Community hikes might be what the doctor ordered if you need fresh air! You can simultaneously enjoy fun exercise and shake things up.

Outdoor strolls are a workout that doesn’t feel like a chore. You can walk alone or with friends while feeling the warm sunshine on your skin and hearing the wind whispering in the trees. If you’re tired of looking at a treadmill screen, lace up your walking shoes and get closer to nature!

5. Boosting Mental Health

Though you may primarily go on walks to boost your physical health, the benefits extend to your brain. Your mental wellness benefits from nature walks because of the calmness and concentration. Your workout can double as a mindfulness activity if you leave your earbuds at home and focus on the sensory experience.

Solo trips are rewarding, but you don’t have to be a lone wolf! Hitting the trail with friends provides a stress buffer and helps you be more present. Gauge your mood before and after to truly appreciate the benefits.

6. Building Bonds

You can trailblaze by yourself or grab a partner to train with Mother Nature! Hikes with friends are terrific for building community while getting fit. You and your pals can immerse yourselves in deep conversation while exploring the woods and soaking in the natural beauty.

Whether at Turkey Creek Trail or the Rocky Mountains, these social events let you connect and form new bonds. If you’re new to fitness or starting over after letting your routine fall off track, you can use outdoor workouts with partners for extra motivation.
