Gym-timidation can weigh you down. Don’t let it bar you from achieving your goals! Follow inspirations with impressive stories like Leslie. She lost weight and tackled her health problems head-on. How can you achieve similar greatness? Here’s Leslie’s story and how you can crush your fitness goals.

Leslie Takes Down Gym-Timidation

I am so proud to introduce you to the incredible Leslie! Her story is an absolute inspiration. Not only has she made incredible physical changes and health improvements, but she has also gained real independence and can do things she couldn’t before.

When Leslie first joined Chris Protein Personal Training, she faced significant challenges. She couldn't balance on one foot, was about 50 pounds overweight, and had not been moving and exercising for a long time. Simple tasks like getting up off the ground had become difficult.

After a recent visit to the doctor, she learned she was pre-diabetic. At 65, those were some serious red flags. The thought of worsening mobility and health implications was concerning and she knew it was time for a change.

Initially, Leslie had concerns about cost and gym-timidation, but those worries were quickly put to rest when she met her trainer, Ali. Leslie said, "I really feel like my trainers invested in me, my progress, and my success."

And the results? Absolutely life-changing!

  • She is down 55 pounds and has lost loads of inches!

  • Recent blood work showed she's no longer pre-diabetic, and her A1C is way down!

  • Vacuuming and taking out the trash are now easy. Plus, her doggo is now getting "nice long walks instead of short walks" because Leslie doesn't "run out of energy."

  • She's fitting into old clothes again, including overalls that are now "big and loose," and she feels "more confident walking around!”

How You Can Crush That Pesky Gym-Timidation

The gym can be intimidating if you haven’t been. That said, it’s an excellent spot to flex your confidence and reach your goals! Here’s how you can work out those fears and declare victory.

1. Take It From Leslie

Start by learning from others who were in a similar position. Leslie said costs and gym-timidation were inhibitions, but her trainer helped her overcome her hesitations. If you’re concerned about walking through the doors, take Leslie’s advice about starting a fitness journey.

“Do it, do it, do it,” she said. “My one regret is that I didn't do this years ago.”

It’s a great reminder that it’s never too late to take control of your health and start living your best life — and the sooner, the better! Seeing her transform from someone who struggled with basic tasks to a strong, independent and confident person is exactly why we offer personalized exercise plans and are so proud!

2. Take a Friend

You don’t have to tackle your fitness journey alone. Exercise your right to bring a friend! Find a trusted person to be your accountability partner. You can do the same workouts with free weights and machines, share healthy recipes, and help each other with gym-timidation.

Take advantage of the partner training plans to get double the fun! The trainer will guide you and your workout buddy to fitness glory. You can see what they’re doing correctly or help them with their form when exercising. Regardless, you’ll get quality results and expert guidance.

3. Factor in Your Diet

Diet matters for your fitness because it influences muscle growth and energy levels. You’re on the right track if you’re eating healthy dinners like turkey hamburgers with vegetables. You don’t have to have a perfect diet — eat what you like and make smart substitutions.

So, how does it affect gym-timidation? Experts say balanced diets reduce anxiety by fueling your body and helping you do what you love. Fruits, vegetables and whole foods constitute healthy eating, whereas caffeine could be counterproductive by increasing anxiety.

4. Give Yourself Grace

If you’re starting a fitness journey, you may feel pressure to get results quickly. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you won’t accomplish your goals in a week! Don’t let unrealistic expectations squat on your dreams. Instead, be kind and give yourself grace.

The path to success isn’t always linear. You may need to skip a workout because you need an extra day to recover or aren’t feeling well. Don’t worry! The most important part is consistency. If you dumbbell-ieve in yourself, that’s all that matters! Take notes from Jordan, who lost track for two years before returning to the gym and building his muscles back.

5. Celebrate Your Victories

Imagine you just finished your first week in the gym. You should be proud of yourself and celebrate! You squashed your gym-timidation and took the first steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Acknowledging small wins boosts confidence and reinforces positive behavior, regardless of size.

Your celebrations should revolve around things that make you happy. Small victories could include a mental high-five and a pat on the back. However, bigger wins should have an equivalent celebration. For example, hitting your weight-loss goal may lead to a new set of clothes or a spa day!
